Sailor Moon is such a classic and iconic series, and is one of the most popular series that people cosplay. Today we have a few pose ideas for your next photo shoot or convention appearance. Whether you've just getting into Sailor Moon or are a seasoned fan, I'm sure there's a few new things here that you can try out next time!

Let's get started with the easiest poses and will move towards more challenging ones.

Half Body Poses

Half body poses are definitely the easiest to start with (compared to full body). If you don't have much photoshoot experience, start here with these cute still poses we picked out. These poses will work great for an indoor shoot at a studio or just with a plain background. You can retouch the background afterwards to give it a more professional finish.

The Iconic Cross Arm Pose

This pose is probably one of the most iconic gestures from the series. Simply cross your arms, make the finger gun hand sign in one hand (2 fingers), and the love you hand sign (3 fingers) in the other. The finger gun points at your "enemy", and the love sign points to the world!

This pose also works great if you want to hold a prop in one hand like the second image.

The Prayer Pose

Another great pose for beginners that can achieve stunning results in the final photo.

Simply put your hands together in prayer and close your eye. Make sure to get your photographer to snap pictures from the front and the side!

The Giving Pose

Another pose you might have seen a few times is the Giving Pose. This pose is great as a half body shot or a full body shot.

For this poses, simply stand with your legs together, and put the heel of one foot against the arch of the other (if you're a ballet dancer, it's third position). Then extend your arms fully in front of your chest and open your hands.

Standing Poses

These next set are some standing poses for your indoor and outdoor photoshoots.

The Princess Pose

placeholder

Does this pose look familiar? In fact, several Disney princesses pose in the exact same way!

Simply raise one arm and place your hand below your jaw to frame your face. Then, place your other arm at ~30 degrees from your body, be sure to bend your wrist so that your hand is at a steeper angle than your arm.

Moon Healing Escalation Pose

This is a wonderful pose that elongates your lines and conveys so much power and confidence.

For this pose, raise one hand over your head and hold a slight curve in your arm. Careful to not overextend because then you might look more like superman. With your other arm, hold it down at ~40 degrees from your body and extend your hand. Stand at roughly two shoulder width apart. Play around with shifting your weight by lifting the heel of one foot. This shift will help you the pose that results in the prettiest lines. Careful to hold a slight bend in your knees. If your legs are completely straight, you might look more like wonder woman or super man. Lastly, if you can, try lifting both heels off the ground. Standing on your tippy toes will give you the longest lines in your legs and will help give a slight bend in your knees.

Moon Tiara Action Pose

Another powerful pose that we love from Sailor Moon!

This pose is super wide and low. To make sure your feet are wide enough apart, start off by getting into a lunge facing the side (not into the camera). Your front knee should be forming a right angle and your thighs are parallel to the ground. Ok, maybe go even a little lower. Now extend your front leg and bend your back leg, like in the picture below. In that photo, Usagi's body is facing the side. Since you were in a lunge facing the side, your body will already be facing the right direction. Turn your head to face the camera, and extend your arms.

Two last things to ask your photographer to quickly check. Is your back arm visible? If not, move extend your arm further so it is visible, like the photo. Are you toes (on the extended leg) pointing outwards? If not, point them away from your body to fully extend your lines!

Jumping Poses

Now, ready for the best part? Jumping poses!

For these jumping poses, I recommend you practice with a camera (a phone with burst mode will be great). Then after each time you jump, look at the photo to make sure you know how the pose looks like in the air and make any tweaks to how you're jumping or how you extend your body.

I find that with jumping poses, my muscles and lines often look very different than what I originally imagined. So definitely check your photos as you practice and make changes as you need to get the right muscle memories trained into your body. You don't want to be practicing 50 times and coding the wrong muscle memory 50 times. It'll be much harder to fix it later on.

Moon Eternal Makeup Pose

For this pose, start off by facing the side, not the camera. Lift your hand that's away from the camera and place about a fist's length above your head. This hand should be in love you (3 finger) hand sign. Place your arm closer to the camera at ~30 degrees away from your body. Bend your wrist so your hand is almost parallel to the ground.

While your body is still facing the side, lift up your leg that's closer to the camera. Point your toes and place your toes next to your standing leg's knee. Now twist your body to face the camera. You can arch your chest slightly to create a prettier curve. As you're twisting, make you your standing leg is strong and adjust until you can hold this pose while on one leg. If you don't want to jump, just standing like this will also result in a great photo.

If you want to go one step further, bend your standing leg while hold everything else still (squeezing your thighs will help). And jump! Be sure to point your feet!

Moon Crisis Make Up Pose

This next pose is one of the hardest poses. Not only are you jumping on one foot, arching your back a ton, and your head is not upright! Follow these next steps to get the best results.

Start off by practicing your chest arch. Unlike a backbend, you don't want to create the arch with your back. Stand facing a wall, with body gently pressed against it. Slowly arch your head, neck, chest back, but make sure your rib cage stays in contact with the wall (to avoid doing a back bend). Practice this until you are happy with the arch your chest is creating.

Then standing facing the side (not the camera), bend at your chest until your head is parallel to the ground. Place both arms 30 degrees behind your body, extend your hands. Lift the leg closer to the camera like earlier. Squeeze both legs together, and jump off with your standing leg!

There, you did it! Just keep practicing until it looks the way you like on your camera.
