Squid Game is thrilling, suspenseful and as twists at every corner. Think you know the characters well? What are the MBTI personality type of each character?

ISTP - The "Rebel" / "Mechanic" / "Virtuoso"

If you've been following our blogs, or if you're familiar with the MBTI, then you'll know that ISTPs are fiercely independent, adventurous, and bold. They are also quick learners, adaptable, and enjoy exploring the world with their hands and eyes. People with this personality learn through trial and error and aren't afraid to jump into the action!

Kang Sae-byeok / No. 067

placeholder

Sae-byeok is a classic example of the ISTP personality. She is independent and resourceful. She appears to be prickly on the outside, but has a soft and beautiful core.

Sae-byeok's had the aura of a lone wolf. She was on guard against players around her. Her trust is not given easily, unlike Gi-hun, but has to be earned. She is never the first one to warm up to those around her, but she will remember the actions of those around her and reciprocate in kind later on. She almost sabotaged Deok-su (No. 101 gangster) during Red Light, Green Light, after being beaten by him. She repaid Ji-hun's kindness by reminding him on the glass bridge. She For ISTPs, actions speak louder than words and that's why they tend to be distrusting of those who say pretty words, but instead will take note of actions and behaviors of others, big or small.

Her resourcefulness was also demonstrated throughout. She was the only one who noticed the air vent AND had the guts to explore them, before the Honeycomb game. She was also able to smuggle a small knife in with her, which protected her several times early on in the games.

The games were horrifying but Sae-byoek's transformation within the games was beautiful. She went from being completely distrusting everyone, to extending kindness passively when teaming up with Ji-yeong (knowing they would be at a disadvantage), to actively helping Ji-hun on the bridge, and finally stopping Ji-hun from killing Sang-woo despite everything that has happened. She never lost sight of who she is and that's why she's one of the most popular characters in the show

Hwang Jun-ho / Undercover Police Officer

placeholder

Jung-ho, the police officer in search of his brother, is another example of the ISTP personality. He is spontaneous and jumped into action (or the shuttle van), without any planning. He did not tell anyone what he was up to and didn't think about backup in case things went wrong. ISTP's are not rigid followers of rules and view them up for interpretation. Despite being a police officer, Jun-ho did not hesitate to kill soldier 28. He was also adaptable and resourceful. He changed identifies several times and managed to collect incrimination evidence about the Squid Game organization.

INTJ - The "Architect" / "Mastermind"

INTJ's tend to be private people with rich and complex thoughts on the inside. They like improving systems and are innovative problem solvers. Architect personalities are rational and very intelligent. They like to analyze everything around them from systems, to history, art, people and more.

INTJs are often great inventors and scientists (Sir Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking). Their intellectual capacity, if not channeled property, can also make them formidable villains (Voldemort, Moriarty).

Cho Sang-woo / No. 218

placeholder

If Sae-byeok's transformation was towards openness and cooperation, then Sang-woo's was in the opposite direction. His intellect, combined with an ultra-rational mindset, hardened him after each game and blurred his moral boundaries more and more.

Early in the series, we saw that although Sang-woo was arrogant, a common weakness of INTJs, he showed a soft side when he lent his phone to Ali and gave him bus fare. He was recognized by players as the brains of the team and was quick to strategize. In the honeycomb game, Sang woo struggled between rationality and emotional attachment. He called out to Ji-hun as he was walking towards the umbrella shape, but ultimately didn't say anything to help. He was surprised to see Ji-hun after honeycomb, which revealed his passive attempt to get rid of competition, even if it was his childhood friend. Lying by omission in honeycomb evolved to active lying in the marble game. Killing when he had no choice turned into killing by choice on the glass bridge and after the steak dinner. After each slip of his moral boundaries, Sang-woo justified it using rationality and focusing on the end result. INTJ's are ambitious and strategize to win, which is exactly what we saw Sang-woo do. INTJ personalities are capable of greatness, whether for good or bad.

ESFP - "Motivator" / "Entertainer" / "Performer"

ESFPs are fun, spontaneous, and live in the moment. They are affectionate and warm, but also enjoy attention and being in the spotlight. They are zealous and can get excited quickly about an idea or the next thing. However, keeping their interest for long may be more challenging than igniting the spark. ESFP love entertaining other and making others feel good and have fun as well. They are kind and very generous when it comes to helping those in need.

Seong Gi-hun / No. 456

placeholder

Our protagonist is extraverted, kindhearted, but also adaptable and quick on his feet. He has been warm towards those around him since the beginning of the game. He invited the old man and other women onto his team out of compassion. His warmth was one of the reasons for Sae-byeok's transformation.

He is not without fault however. He has poor self control, like many other Perceiving types, which is how he got himself into gambling trouble. Most of the time, he is positive and morally upright. However, when it comes to matters of life or death, or when he is overwhelmed by emotion, Ji-hun can resort to underhanded means (during the marble game or after witnessing Sang-woo's actions after the glass bridge).

Han Mi-nyeo / No. 212

placeholder

Another ESFP in the show is Han Mi-nyeo, who first had a romantic interest in Deok-su (the gangster), but ended up killing him after he betrayed her. Mi-nyeo had many flaws but several strengths as well. She walked a fine line between challenging the soldiers to get what she wants and not pushing to far to put herself in danger. She was the first to jump into the spotlight to plead her case after Red Light, Green Light to persuade the organizers to let players go. She also made a huge commotion to get soldiers to let her use the bathroom after lights out. While in the bathroom, this ability to "perform" and read reactions from others allowed her to cover for Sae-byeok while she explored the air vents. F personalities are governed by values rather than logic. This fact explains why she ultimately killed Deok-su after his betrayal at the cost of her own life.

ISFP - The "Artist" / "adventurer"

The ISFP personality is open minded, creative, and likes to live in the moment. They need freedom to explore and don't enjoy rigid confines of societal structures and rules. They interact with the environment in an expansive way that allows them to take in new perspectives, experiment with new and novel concepts, and be open to spontaneous actions.

Ali Abdul / No. 199

placeholder

Similar to his extraverted counterpart Ji-hun (ESFP), Ali (ISFP) is also open, warm and kind. He was the first to extend a helping hand in Red Light, Green Light and saved Ji-hun's life. Except for the accident involving his boss, Ali's character was the most blameless out of all the players. He never lost sight of his humanity despite the horrors of the games or the attractiveness of the prize. He was dependable, trustworthy, and openminded to ideas and suggestions.

ENTP - The "Debater" / "Visionary"

ENTP personalities love mental sparring and intellectual discussions. They seek other diverse views and can understand different perspectives. Due to their extensive knowledge base and intellectual nature, ENTP can thread separate ideas together to form a bigger vision. They look at the big picture and aren't afraid to voice dissenting opinions.

Ji-yeong / No. 240

placeholder

Ji-yeong is thoughtful, opinionated, and kind-hearted. After the tug-of-war, when one of the players was praying, she was the first to voice dissent and give credit to other team members. She invited Sae-byeok to team up in order to reciprocate the invitation Sae-byeok extended last time. Ji-yeong was tried repeated to reach out to Sae-byeok despite her attitude and finally succeed in having a heart-to-heart during the marble game. Her pensive nature made her reflect on the bigger picture and their purposes for leaving the game. When she came to the conclusion that her friend had a better reason for leaving, she selflessly gave up her life.

ENFJ - The "Protagonist" / "Giver"

ENFJ personalities feel a strong sense of fulfillment when they are able to guide their friends and loved ones into their best selves. They are inspiring leaders and tend to be good at building consensus. They tend to persuasive and often appear warm. ENFJ's have a great ability for picking out the underlying motivations and drivers of people.

Oh Il-nam / No. 001

placeholder

The mysterious number 1 player turned out to the mastermind behind the games. He was a financier who gained his riches and created the Squid Game along with his clients. He was sharp and saw the boredom and emptiness that these rich clients felt. He them managed to persuaded them to join him and started this operation. In the game, he was warm and approachable, characteristic of the E/F tendencies. He genuinely connected with Ji-gun and let him win the marble game. His fulfillment came more from being a part of the pack and guiding them rather than being a detached observer, which is another trait of the ENFJ.

ESTP - The "Entrepreneur" / "Persuader" / "Dynamo"

ESTP are energetic, live in the moment, and are heavily biased to action. They'd rather jump in and learn from mistakes than to talk at length from a distance. ESTPs prefer facts to emotions and love exploring through observation and action. They are intelligent, perceptive and bold. ESTPs are not afraid of the path less traveled or rocking the status quo.

Jang Deok-su / No. 101

placeholder

The gangster Deok-su is not the easiest to love from first glance but there are several strengths to his personality. ESTPs are great leaders with their quick mind and extraverted nature. Deok-su was a clear leader from day one and he attracted many followers to his team. He is also good at assessing situations and quickly figuring out the optimal path for himself. When Ji-hun pointed out the danger he could be in after lights out, because he was the strongest man, Deok-su took this input and quickly adjusted his plans. ESTPs don't follow the established order blindly. On the glass bridge, Deok-su selfishly but correctly, uses the prisoner's dilemma to his advantage (if everyone behind him stays put, they all die, or if they cooperate and go in front, they might live). If it weren't for Han Mi-nyeo, his disregard for the rule might have allowed him to live to the next round.

Costuming

Check out these makers if you're looking for a quality costume that'll last you throughout the games!

Aina Costumes makes great masks and armor. Check out her works if you're looking for a Front Man Mask or VIP mask. She can probably make you a soldier/worker mask as well that Jun-ho wore.

We have many makes who can make track suits or jackets for the player costume or Front Man costume. Rosary is great at jackets and track suits.

If you're looking for a gun or any props with special effects, check out Kyengen's awesome works!

Not sure how much these things might cost? Check out this blog on estimating commissioning costs.
