About

Hurricane Sandy hit my hometown of East Rockaway, Long Island, New York hard. Homes were flooded, trees were uprooted, boats were thrown up on the mainland, and many residents were forced from their homes and lost everything. The relief center after Hurricane Sandy was located at the Bethany Congregational Church of East Rockaway gym for months. Neighbors affected by Hurricane Sandy came in and walked out with whatever they needed to get on with their lives. Hundreds of people came to the Bethany Church during the following months and the gym floor took a beating and had to be refurbished. The gym floor has been redone and looks great now, but we still had to pay for it and that is how HurriCon, a comic art convention, was born!
