The creation of my 3D printed Mandalorian helmet began with carefully slicing the digital file and sending it to the printer. Once printing was complete, I moved to the long but rewarding process of priming and sanding. Each round of sanding smoothed out layer lines, while primer and black spray paint revealed imperfections I could smooth out further. After the surface was prepared, I applied the gloss paint, building up layers for a shiny finish. Subtle buffing and finishing along with highlights added depth, giving the helmet the worn, yet shiny look true to the Mandalorian style. While this first attempt is complete and satisfying to wear and display, I view it as only the first iteration. With three more helmets printed, painted and finished, I’ve learned to refine the techniques, and experiment with stronger methods to improve the finish and build quality overall. Each build teaches me more, bringing me closer to the perfect Mandalorian armor, I am working on my personal costume for this Halloween and the process has been super fulfilling. It's inspired me to continue crafting and building more props that match the TV quality of those items.
