This project began in 2020 after the release of Doom Eternal, up to this point I had made two cosplay armours however this was the first I wanted to make entirely from EVA foam. I began with the shotgun which at the time I 3D printed however remade out of EVA foam after my skills had improved.
Since the Doom Slayer is much larger than myself I had to make a muscle suit, something that I had never done before, however after studying the human anatomy and muscle suit construction techniques I made the muscle suit from a base suit, covered in upholstery foam for the muscles and covered in a layer of spandex for the skin which was then painted to look more realistic.
With the muscle suit completed I then began the armour itself. I started drawing patterns based on reference images from in-game and an online 3D model, once completed I transferred these onto EVA foam and began the build process. This was repeated for each section of the armour over the course of 2 years. The entire build was made from hand drawn patterns and EVA foam while repeated details such as the spikes were 3d modelled and printed by myself.
The helmet was made from EVA foam using the unfolding app Pepakura for the basic shape while I patterned out the extra details by hand. The visor was made from a sheet of coloured plastic and I then began the painting process.
The suit was primed using flexible rubber primer and base coated with various spray paints. Decals were hand cut and applied by masking tape. Once painted the suit was then weathered accordingly.
I had plans of making the under-suit from rubber via silicone casting and began to sculpt the under-suit using monster clay, however it was only after I finished the sculpting process I released how expensive this would have been and so decided to make the under-suit from foam but have plans to upgrade in the future. I added internal padding, buckles and straps to the under-suit to provide movement and stability and the cosplay is complete
