Last week, we looked at who you should cosplay from the Studio Ghibli female characters. Today we'll take a look at the best male characters based on personality types.
ISTP "Rebel" - Sutemaru (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya)
ISTP men are well liked and are quite charismatic. They seem confident and very competent with their hands and tools. They make decisions based on logic, which makes them appear dependable to other.
ISTP men can appear to have a cool vibe (think James Dean), they are charming and mysterious. They live in the present and enjoy adventures.
Sutemaru is very skilled at catching game from the fields. He demonstrates bravery and kindness in various parts of the film. There also seems to be a spontaneous element in his personality where he would abandon it all to start anew with Kaguya.
ISTJ "Logistician" - Seita Yokokawa (Grave of the Fireflies)
ISTJ men are characterized by a strong sense of duty. They tend to follow established processes and are highly motivated to complete tasks at a high standard.
ISTJ also tend to be honest and trustworthy individuals. They tell it as it is and don't sugar coat things. This personality also tends to focus on the practical side of life. They want to see clear concrete goals, data and analysis, and can complete anything they set their minds to.
Seita is a man of duty who tried his best to provide for his little sister, despite the tragic ending of the film. He was also honest and and trusting when he gave all their possessions to his aunt. Seita was warm, responsible, and practical when they faced each tough situation .
INTP "Engineer" - Jiro Horikoshi (The Wind Rises)
INTPs are natural born engineers. They can tackle any problem and come up with a practical application to solve it. They are not only practical, but highly creative and curious, which is why they are able to dream up inventions that didn't exist before.
The Engineer personality is hungry for information and possible paths, which can make them seem indecisive at times. They prefer facts and data and can be less in tune with emotions of others. Many great scientists and inventors are INTP personalities.
Jiro is a dreamer who wants to fly airplanes. When he discovered that he cannot become a pilot, he didn't gave up and set his goal on building planes instead. Through many years of hard work, learning, and being perseverant, he was able to achieve his dream.
INFP "Idealist" - Ashitaka (Princess Mononoke)
As we saw last week, INFPs are wildly creative and have vibrant inner worlds. This personality is sensitive to those around them and are very attune to the emotions expressed in art, music, films and such. INFPs operate from their values, which is often an idealized version of the world. They are also empathetic and long for deep and meaningful connections with others.
INFP personality is very rare in the entire population, and even more so in men. The sensitive and empathetic nature of INFP men make them great candidates for deep friendship and romantic development.
Ashitaka is very kind and has a soft spot for finding balance between the forces of nature and humanity. He is idealistic works towards achieving peace throughout the film. His kind and loving nature also eventually touched San, and he was able to get past her hard shell and connect with her soft side.
INFJ "Advocate" - Haku (Spirited Away)
Another rare but special personality in men. INFJs have rich inner worlds and are sensitive to the emotions in arts, films as well as in other people. They are incredibly warm and thoughtful people. INFJs also have a strong connection with others and are great partners.
INFJ men don't fit into traditional roles many times because they have a strong set of morals and beliefs and they don't like being fitted neatly within the boundaries of defined measures. INFJs seek out deep and meaningful relationships and can be incredibly nurturing.
Haku is a complex character, signature of the INFJ type. He is warm and patient and is the source of strength for Chihiro when she is navigating the foreign world.
ESTP "Entrepreneur" - Asbel (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind)
ESTP men are driven and are highly motivated to be successful in whatever they set out to do. Similar to their ISTP counter parts, they live in the moment and on the edge. They prefer adventure to stability, and the path less travelled to the well paved road.
ESTPS gain energy from interacting with others and can read the people around them. However, they may not be as in tune with their own emotions and feelings.
Asbel is enthusiastic towards the things he agrees to and is very driven. However, his lack of emotional management shows when he cannot control his temper and is often easy to provoke.
ESTJ "Executive" - Jiji (Kiki's Delivery Service)
ESTJ men are driven and can be a little intense at times. They want to be actively working towards their goals and dislike sitting back. Their will power and determination is the source of their success.
Since ESTJs are constantly pushing themselves and methodically executing against their plan, they may seem uptight or stressed out. However, when they are with family or friends, they are outgoing and very loyal.
Jiji is a chatty and sarcastic chat who is proud and opinionated (in the American version). He was the voice of wisdom in the early part of the film in his relationship with Kiki. At the end of the film, when Kiki still was not able to understand Jiji, that signaled a maturing process that she has undergone.

ESFJ are caring and very Intune with the emotions of those around them They are charismatic, popular and true community leaders. They have a sense of right and wrong that is based on established order and rules. They enjoy giving their service and time to others and are very altruistic in nature. ESFJ men tend to be curious, compassionate and highly motivated people.
Howl has been curious since a young age, which prompted him to study magic. He is charming and charismatic, has has many ladies swooning over him. Howl is tenacious about getting what he wants and even uses Sophie to get information when they went to Wales before Midsummer's Day. ESFPs are fun, live in the moment, and very spontaneous. They are affectionate and warm, but also enjoy attention and being in the spotlight.
