First Ever - Cashless "Coatcheck" Cosplay Buy/Sell
This past Saturday was the Wicked Comic Con in Boston and boy was I excited for so many reasons!
Not only was it the first comic con near me for 2022, but it was also where I was running a Cashless "coatcheck" style Cosplay Buy/Sell, the first of it's kind!
This is what our day was like. We had a blast running the cosplay resale event, meeting so many friends, and getting some awesome cosplay photos! Keep scrolling to see what it was like to have a table at the con, what the heck is a "coatcheck" cosplay buy/sell, and all the photos we took during the day! Planning and Packing
Going to a comic con as an artist/vendor is a totally different experience than when you're going as an attendee. Even though I wasn't selling anything and didn't have merchandise like the other artists or vendors, I still ended up with 2 suit cases, 2 duffle bags, 1 gigantic banner bag, and 1 clothing rack that I needed to bring with me to the event. So I asked a friend to come and help me pretty last minute since I realized there's no way I could lug all that from my dorm to the car, and into the con. So if it's your first time having a table at a con, start packing and planning early and think about how much help you'll need from friends.
Typically, the con will only give you a table plus two chairs, unless you order special things from them. And this was our packing list for having a table at the comic con this time
- background banner
- display materials (we had two foam boards to put in front of the table)
- metal cube shelf for display
- clothing rack (only specific to our secondhand cosplay resale event)
- packing tape (it's like plastic wrap but for moving and is super helpful to get everything together quickly at the end of the day)
- tape (for signs and other emergencies)
- scissors
- sewing kit (in case of costume mishaps around you)
- business cards, stickers, postcards
- your merch or art or anything else you're showcasing
Setting Up (8-10AM)
Most conventions allow you to set up a day in advance and the day of. For Wicked Comic Con, they allowed set up in the afternoon on Friday or from 6-9AM on Saturday. Since we didn't have that much stuff, we figured we'll save ourselves a trip and head over in the morning. After not being able to fit all of our stuff into one car, and needing to call in reinforcements, we finally made it to the Westin Seaport in Boston by 9AM! (My eyes are so swollen from waking up early haha >___<)
We took a good hour to unpack, set up our table, and was ready just in time when the doors opened! Sherri made us super cute postcards and stickers that we were thrilled to share at the con.
Doors Open (10AM)
When doors opened right at 10, we were ready to go!
For this cashless "coatcheck" secondhand costume event, cosplayers set up their accounts beforehand. And on the day of, they just drop off their items, and are free to roam around and enjoy the con.
If someone wants to buy their item, they'll do so via a unique link that pays each individual seller directly! We had quite a couple of items that people brought in for this very first time we're running this.
And I can't wait to continue run it at more conventions and making it bigger and better each time!
Rest of the day (10AM-7PM)
There were quite a couple treasures that folks found today! My favorite one was this Captain Marvel full set. It was made with leather, in pristine condition, and had all the accessories and shoes included. I was so happy to see @enfleurise costume go to a new home and the new owner Alice (in this pic below) is beyond thrilled about her new cosplay!
By the end of the night, cosplayers came and picked up whatever items didn't sell, or they left it with me so I can take it to the next con and try to find a new owner there.
